Shirley Heinze Land Trust – mentioned a couple of times. Their still somewhat new Meadowbrook property on 700 N is open to the public to hike.
Prairie Winds Nature Farm – my friend Charlotte’s sustainable farm in Lakeville, Indiana. She’s in the time bank too.
Eat Wild – I didn’t mention this group, but I should have. They’re focused mainly on areas a bit east of here, but since we basically share the same climate, most of the foraged foods mentioned are on the same timeline as us.
Moraine Nature Preserve – one of my “secret” spots I like to hike
Indiana Dunes State Park – one of my not so secret places I like to hike. Mushroom hunting is allowed here, per the Visitor’s Bureau and other places where I’ve checked. Make sure to keep yourself up to date on these regulations.
Indiana Master Naturalists – alumni group for people who have gone through the program, either atTaltree Arboretum & Gardens or elsewhere. Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve offered a program this spring for the first time too.
Northwest Indiana Green Drinks – monthly meet ups about environmental topics in Valpo, Michigan City and Miller.
